It was a special day at Milton Keynes University Hospital recently as we delivered five brand new wheelchairs to wards across the hospital – all thanks to the determination and generosity of one incredible supporter, Andy.
Andy began fundraising in loving memory of his partner, Debbie, after spending so much time by her side on the wards. During that time, he saw first-hand the difference a wheelchair can make – and the challenges when one isn’t available.
We were delighted to welcome Andy to the hospital to see the impact of his fundraising in action. Andy has now delivered a total of nine wheelchairs to MKUH and this is just the beginning – Andy is determined to continue his efforts and provide even more wheelchairs for wards and departments across the hospital when they need one.

Andy’s Story
Andy started fundraising following the sad loss of his partner of six years, Debbie, who passed away on Ward 16 in October last year after a long battle with asthma.
While supporting Debbie during her time in hospital, Andy noticed something that stayed with him – wards didn’t always have their own dedicated wheelchair.
A wheelchair may seem like a simple piece of equipment, but the impact having access to one makes is profound.
Making a Difference
Before working with Milton Keynes Hospital Charity, Andy had already raised enough funds to provide four wheelchairs for four wards. Since joining forces with Milton Keynes Hospital Charity he has been able to fund an additional five wheelchairs bringing the grand total to nine wheelchairs.
Each wheelchair supports around 30 patients per ward, every single day – helping hundreds of people over time.
Andy has even seen first-hand the difference these wheelchairs make, describing the moment a family was able to take their loved one off the ward as “something really special.”

Looking Ahead
Andy’s goal is ambitious – to provide every ward and department at Milton Keynes University Hospital that needs a wheelchair with a wheelchair!
It’s a simple idea, but one that could transform the experience of care for patients and families across the hospital.
How You Can Support Andy
Every donation, no matter the size, will help fund another wheelchair and support more patients across MKUH.
