Helping patients and their families stay connected

On Monday 23rd March 2020, the UK went into lockdown in response to Covid-19. Technology became so important as ever increasing numbers of people relied upon it to stay in touch with their families, friends and colleagues.

Milton Keynes University Hospital had to make huge changes to adapt to the social distancing rules, including restricting the number of visitors allowed to visit patients. Staff in many instances acted as the main communicator with patients.

Thanks to your donations, we have been able to re-connect our patients (and staff) with their families, friends, and colleagues through the purchase of 80 mobile phones. This means that contact can be made virtually, making time at Milton Keynes University Hospital that little bit more comfortable and reassuring.

Fundraising through our Covid-19 Appeal has made this possible and enabled us to have a huge impact on our patients and staff.

Pictured is Naomi, senior sister on Ward 23 with some of the purchased phones, ready to start virtual visiting with relatives. Naomi said: ‘ This really helps patients with the current visiting restrictions – it means they can listen to a familiar voice, or see a family member’s face when they need it most.’

We would like to extend a special thanks to Boxx Communications, NHS Charities Together, and the Milton Keynes community for helping us to make this happen.
