New Cardiology Appeal for MKUH

Milton Keynes Hospital Charity is pleased to announce a new appeal on behalf of the Cardiology Department. We are asking for support to raised the final £7,000 needed to refurbish and update the waiting area.

You can find the latest updates, or make a donation to the Cardiology Waiting room here

The waiting room is used by the thousands of patients and family members who are referred to the Cardiology department at Milton Keynes University Hospital each year. This could be for emergency testing and treatment or long term care resulting in frequent visits to the department.

Having a space where a patient feels comfortable waiting for treatments or updates on progress is extremely important, as well as the comfort of their loved ones who often come along to provide support and are often left in the waiting room whilst their loved one receives treatment.

Through our Cardiology waiting area appeal we need to raise £23,000 to completely transform the large waiting area in the department – benefitting more than 46,000 patients each year.

Moreover, with the effects of Covid-19 and the reluctance to visit the hospital, the Cardiology team are anticipating a huge 50% increase, if not more, over the next 2 to 3 years.

These are unprecedented times and the need for a comfortable, inviting waiting area is now more important than ever.

We are aware of the way an environment impacts our mood in general. When you are in a nice, welcoming, warm environment, you are more likely to feel settled and comfortable for longer, in comparison to a bland, clinical space. We want to provide a space that offers distractions, even if only for a moment, making the experience of patients and their loved ones a little easier.

The outside space surrounding the Cardiology Department is a positive calming space; thanks to an incredibly generous staff member who volunteers countless hours of her own time to the courtyard outside the entrance to the Cardiology Unit.

Feedback from Staff, Patients and their families has highlighted the importance of having a relaxed, calming environment to wait. With your help we would like to By supporting our Cardiology appeal, you can make a difference to the 46,000 people – who come into our cardiology unit for treatment and diagnosis EVERY year.

Why are we fundraising?

Unfortunately, hospital budgets only go so far – and with charitable support, a functional but clinical space can be transformed into something warm, bright and inviting – really taking the patient experience over and above.

We need to raise £23,000 in total. We’ve already raised £16,000, which includes a generous pledge from the Milton Keynes Community Foundation.

We’re now appealing to the public for the remaining £7,000.
