Pamper evening for parents of children with diabetes

Recently the hospital’s Dietetics Team organised a special pamper evening for parents of children who are currently under the children’s diabetes team – to provide a little respite for them and meet people in a similar situation.

We were so pleased to support this event by helping organise a beautiful, free space courtesy of our friends at @makewell as well as provide hand massages from our supporter Elizabeth Rathbone, a massage therapist based in MK.

Celina Hackett, the apprentice dietician who organised the event, said: “The evening went very well, we couldn’t have asked for it to run better! Makewell was a perfect venue, the setting it was in made it feel like a calm and relaxing space and it was perfect size and had a little room down corridor for spa treatments. The mums chatted away between themselves for whole evening, and they seemed to offload a lot together so appeared very helpful to them. We got lovely messages after saying they didn’t realise how much they needed to do that and a mum commented before leaving that this is what real staff wellbeing support feels like. We were very happy with how it went!”

Also in attendance to support was a consultant diabetes paediatrician and diabetes youth worker.

A very special thank you to Makewell for the room, Elizabeth for the massages and well done to Celina for organising!
