During May, we were proud to celebrate two very special occasions – International Day of the Midwife (5 May) and International Nurses Day (12 May) – recognising the dedication, compassion and expertise of our incredible teams at Milton Keynes University Hospital.
To mark these important moments, we worked in partnership with our amazing supporters, including the Rapid Relief Team UK and Milton Keynes College, to deliver a series of wellbeing activities designed to say a heartfelt thank you to our hardworking colleagues.
CareFest: Celebrating Care in All Its Forms
As part of International Nurses Day, MKUH hosted its very first CareFest – a programme of events encouraging conversations about care in all its forms: how we care for our patients, how we support one another, and how we look after ourselves.
The event began with an inspiring keynote speech from Chief Nursing Officer Fiona Hoskins, who encouraged colleagues to reflect on how we can continue to improve the quality of care we provide every day.

Small Gestures, Big Impact
Throughout the week, our teams were treated to thoughtful acts of kindness to recognise their incredible work:
- The Rapid Relief Team UK generously served thousands of pieces of cake, fresh fruit, and countless cups of tea and coffee – delivered with their trademark warmth and smiles
- Talented beauty therapy students from Milton Keynes College volunteered their time to provide relaxing and restorative hand massages
- For International Day of the Midwife, our midwives enjoyed well-deserved coffee and doughnuts, alongside a special raffle featuring beautiful hampers kindly donated by John Lewis & Partners
These moments of care meant so much to colleagues who dedicate their lives to caring for others.

When you care for a living, it truly means a great deal to be cared for in return. These celebrations were made possible thanks to the generosity and support of our partners and volunteers, who helped us recognise and uplift our amazing nursing and midwifery teams.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part in making these events so special – and, most importantly, to our nurses and midwives, whose skill, compassion and dedication make such a difference to patients and families every single day.
