At only 35, Alicja was diagnosed with breast cancer. After completing treatment and receiving
the-all clear in January 2021, she started the couch to 5km challenge and took on the Milton Keynes Half Marathon in June this year.
She says: “It was easily the darkest time of my life. All of this in the middle of the pandemic and just
three months after giving birth to my second child. I was awaiting various tests and scans and about to
start chemotherapy which was to be followed by a double mastectomy and hormone treatment. Too much to even get my head around at the time.
“I was fortunate that my cancer was found early and I was able to receive an exceptional treatment on the NHS which I will be forever grateful for. It was tough physically, even more so mentally but I did it and was given the all clear in January 2021.”
Alicja raised an incredible £1,755 which was split between our Cancer Centre and Breast Care Unit in addition to CoppaFeel who campaign and educate young women on how to best check their breasts.
